Mini Apprenticeship
Discover the wild weeds around us are friends and not foes.
This three month journey from January to March 2021 is for anyone who wants to learn how to cook, bake and create wild food dishes and remedies as well as ethically forage and wildcraft plants using their spirits for guidance. Together, we'll practice identifying plants, learning about their energetics and preparing them for food and healing.
This in-person and live online apprenticeship meets two days per month. The first day we will spend in nature together on site at different locations while the second day will be an online Zoom meeting. In 2021 there will be only 6 spaces open for a more intimate journey together and maintaining the requirements of today's climate. Applications are open until January 5, 2021 or when spaces are filled.
Connect with the Land
In three short months, an introduction of plant spirit medicine, plant history and folklore, preparing and creating sacred space, food safety, baking, cooking and kitchen skills, botany, plant family characteristics, sustainability and ethics with foraging and gardening, and herbalism will begin with our wild green weedy allies.
Small Groups, Open Hearts
Come with the willingness to learn about what the plants can teach us. Our sections are kept small (6 students) so we can create a sacred space for support and respect to bloom. As we dive into boundary work, we’ll learn what that means for each person, plant and landscape.
No matter your race, gender, sexual preference, identity, religion or any other labels you might use to describe yourself, as long as you’re over the age of 21, all are welcome here.
Schedule
This course meets on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 3pm (Pacific Time Zone) on the following days:
January 23-24
February 20-21
March 13-14
Day One - Nature Days on Location
Each class opens with creating sacred space and inviting the spirits to protect and teach the circle. An easy plant walk through different areas of Los Angeles will introduce plant identification and understanding of their impact on the surrounding environment(s). During the plant walk, time with certain plants will be maintained with plant meditations. If there is time, we will create some plant remedies or recipes on location as well.
Day Two - Online
Each class opens with creating sacred space for our journey. A plant meditation guides us through the passageway to the rest of the day for creating tasty foods and natural remedies as well as identification and properties. After lunch, the class is presented as a "kitchen lab" where wild foods will be created online together in your kitchen space. Many recipes will be given out to experiment during the month as well as posted online via social media. Each Zoom class will be 5 hours with breaks and a lunch break.
