Step into the shoes of a wild plant herbalist and foodie.
As the only foraging and creation apprenticeship in the L.A. area, this program is for anyone who wants to learn how to wildcraft ethically and sustainably. Together, we’ll practice identifying plants local to Southern California, learning about their energetics, and preparing them for food and healing.
The apprenticeship meets twice a month from January to November. In 2020, there will be two sections with 10 to 12 spots each. Applications are open until January 1, 2020.
Connect with the Land
We’ll learn about plant spirit medicine, plant history and folklore, preparing and creating sacred space, food safety, baking/cooking/kitchen skills, botany, identification of poisonous and toxic plants, plant family characteristics, native, non-native and invasive species, gardening, herbalism, wildlife safety, sustainability and ethics — just to name a few things.
Small Groups, Open Hearts
Come with the willingness to learn about what the plants can teach us. Our sections are kept small (between 10 and 12 students) so we can create a sacred space for support and respect to bloom. As we dive into boundary work, we’ll learn what that means for each person, plant and landscape.
No matter your race, gender, sexual preference, identity, religion or any other labels you might use to describe yourself, as long as you’re over the age of 21, all are welcome here.
Schedule
Day 1 classes are spent in the field, going on plant walks, identifying plants and sitting in plant spirit community with them. We’ll visit many different ecosystems throughout the greater L.A. area, such as chaparral, riparian, mountain, desert, ocean and urban ecosystems.
Day 2 classes are spent at Daisy’s home, where we’ll continue tapping into plant spirit and turn our foraged plants into tasty treats and natural medicine.
How Do I Apply?
Enrollment is currently open for 2020! There will be two sections with 10 to 12 spots each. Enrollment will close on January 1, 2020 or when all the spots have been filled.
To apply, choose the section that works best for you and fill out an application. You will need to submit a $250 deposit, which includes a non-refundable $50 application fee to cover admin costs. We carefully consider each application to make sure you will be a good fit with the rest of the apprentices and that the apprenticeship aligns with your goals. As such, your application does not guarantee you a spot. You will be notified of your application’s status within 30 days.
